LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A squirrel sparked a power outage Tuesday morning at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s city campus.

Lincoln Fire & Rescue spokeswoman MJ Lierman said a squirrel went into a transformer and caused a power outage.

In an update around 9:20 a.m., the Lincoln Electric System says the outage is impacting the area of First to 27th streets and Benton to R streets.

Crews are “currently assessing damages and working to restore power to the area,” LES said. About 3,4000 customers were without power.

At around 10 a.m., power was restored in the area, according to LES.

LES crews have been dispatched to an outage in the area of N. 1st-N. 27th streets, Benton-R streets impacting approximately 3,400 customers. Crews are currently assessing damages and working to restore power to the area.
